Dynamics 365 Business Central Tip - General Navigation

Posted by Tom Rogers on January 20, 2020

General navigation in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is driven by the actual security role of a user. For instance, you may be signed in as a business manager. Your menu will look very different then the menu a relationship manager or a general a team member would see. For example, if I you wanted to look at the finance areas, you can simply hit the drop down for finance and, for example, go into general journals. You also could go up to the search window and type in "general journal" or as much of the word as you wish. It is a matter of personal preference whether you wish to use the drop down navigation or the search window. In either case, it will take you to the same area.

Further down on the navigation, you can do quick searches for things such as a sales quote, a sales invoice, purchase invoice, etc. There are some very nice metrics built in as well. If you wanted to look at sales for the month, overdue sales invoices, or overdue purchase invoices, that can be viewed with drill down capabilities. Not only can you see and an item showing monthly sales of $27,000, you can also click on that and see the actual sales that made up that $27,000. You can also scroll down and see sales quotes in process, and sales orders. You can also see a quick trial balance as a business manager. If  any reports that have been generated through the scheduling of reports, they would be in your report inbox.

These are just a few of the many areas of navigation as a business manager. And since it is role based, the navigation might be a little bit different if you were signed in as an accountant or one of the other job functions, which means you get the data you need in the format you need.
